SAN ANTONIO -October 12, 2021 --Today, Luminaria announces the official 2021 Featured Artists lineup for its annual Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival, one of the most prominent contemporary arts festivals in South Texas. This nighttime celebration will be held on November 13 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight representing the ingenuity of its vibrant artistic community. Free and open to the public, Luminaria will be held across Hemisfair, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, and the San Antonio RiverWalk with plenty of outdoor space to socially distance while enjoying art.

Famed San Antonio native and actor Jesse Borrego serves as the festival’s 2021 Honorary Curatorial Committee Chair. “Luminaria is the brilliance of possibilities! It is an inclusive festival celebrating our roots, which captures a spiritual energy from our indigenous ancestors. Many cultured visions bring San Antonio life. Que Viva el Arte!” said Borrego.

“Through the pandemic, the arts were there for us. The arts continue to help us heal and it is my hope and the hope of all the artists involved in this year’s Luminaria festival that we come together as a community to celebrate life and experience the joy and wonder that we come to expect from this event,” said Yadhira Lozano, Luminaria Executive Director.

More than 200 Texas artists will showcase fine arts, film, digital art, dance, theatre, fashion and poetry. The festival features local theatre artists DeAnna Brown and Marisela Barrera; a poetry showcase led by Eddie Vega; fine art by Adrian De La Cruz, Kaldric Dow, and Symone Martinez; live music by Ila Minori, Heartless The Monster, Bombasta, Los Texmaniacs, Patricia Vonne, and Pop Pistol; large art installations by Breathe Collective, dadaLab, and Of the Serpent; film by Anna De Luna, Guillermina Zabala, Ryan Takaba, and Susi Lopera; a fashion show by Casa De Ojos; a dance and drum performance by Urban-15; the art gallery will feature a tribute to late Chicano artist Adán Hernandez; and a special appearance by living legend Flaco Jimenez.
